Day 123 – Wuhan Bioweapon? INXS and A Home Brewers Club

March 10th seems like a while ago and yes I have fallen behind on my posts a tad, but this day is still fresh on the mind. It was the week when essential work and self quarantine became the norm due to COVID-19. I was still picking up people this week and this same week schools and universities began shutting down. Flatten the curve. I had to still make a living and I was drastically searching for other alternatives to my work. Uber Eats? Is that my backup plan? We shall see.

The first passenger of the day. Was a gentleman who works at the Silver Reef Casino in Ferndale in marketing. The Lummi Reservation. He had locked his keys in his car and needed to go home to get his spare key. I much cheaper option than spending $150 to get AAA or any other roadside assistance company to assist. Unless of course you’re a member. He was not. Lucky I was there to come to the rescue. I asked him what music he liked? “All kinds” was the response. I tried to see what Australian music he liked and he had not heard of INXS. I played him their greatest hits album, when eventually he had heard on of their songs. It was probably their most famous “Need You Tonight“. As an Australian I try to introduce people to our culture and music as best I can. Some are surprised that certain artists and actors are from downunder.

My next passenger was a lawyer from the Florida. He was an injury lawyer who grew up in Washington. He attacks the big corporations on behalf of the little guy that has injured themselves on a slippery floor or burnt themselves on a hot cup of coffee. Anyway his side hustle is working as a pilot for Spirit Airways. A low budget airline that charges its passengers for water. We discussed the pandemic and he was adamant it was a biological weapon created by the Chinese government. Why? Apparently there’s a bioweapons facility in the Wuhan province. I was not aware of this. He said “the virus may have been made there and then leaked by accident or on purpose”. A shocking allegation indeed, but maybe plausible. I couldn’t help but wonder why a country would do that on purpose to it’s own people? It wouldn’t make sense. The virus was probably from a wet market and either from a pangolin or a bat. Bats do spread hundreds of viruses worldwide. Rabies, Hendra, Ebola, and other versions of Corona viruses.

To my mind it wouldn’t make sense for the Chinese government to do this on purpose. They thrive on a global market. Trading and traveling to everyone. It was an accident that proved to be deadly and economically crippling for everyone.

Finally, unfortunately, only had three passengers for the entire day. A bloke from Pierce county who works for the WTA (Washington Transit Authority). I had him in my car a few months prior. We talked about home brewing kits. Yes brewing beer in your basement or bathtub. I’m keen to do this as a hobby one day. I want to replicate some of my favourite Aussie brews. I like lagers specifically, which requires a lower temperature to make. One day I’ll get a home brew kit and trying this. My passenger told me there are home brew clubs where people get together and try their own specimens.

What can I say? It was a slow day. One ride Lyft, two trips Uber. Next is a wacky Wednesday.
