Day 58 – Post Script – The Radiographer and The Ship of Gold

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

For some reason one of the most interesting passengers in my car escaped my Wednesday blog. A gentleman entered my car who was a student. He works part time as a radiographer. An underwater radiographer. Awesome. He told me that his dad does it for a living and that he has helped him out for a while. He assists him with mapping of the ocean floor. I said that would be an intriguing job, for me it would be doing underwater archaeology. He launched into an incredible story about his father who was part of an expedition in 1997 to find a shipwreck known to the world as the SS Central America. A ship transporting gold that sank in the 1800s. The director of the expedition is now wanted by the FBI for his handling of the investigation. I wanted to know more about this. According to my rider there’s going to be a film about the whole investigation in the future. There is a documentary, which his father appeared in when it was discovered. He’s not sure if his father will appear as a character in the film or not as a radiographer, but he would be excited to see it. I have attached a link below that details the investigation and talks about the leader of the expedition and how he ended up in prison. It’s like a story out of a Clive Cussler novel or to that effect.

I can’t help but think about my career as an archaeologist and how I have ended up as an uber driver. Even a percentage of my passengers are archaeologists or have something to do with archaeology. Is the universe telling me in some weird way to go back? I have tried, but lately I haven’t gone anywhere with my applications.
