The 44th Day

At first it appeared to be a slow day. I picked up two Canadians on the way back to Vancouver. I honestly thought things would get busier due to university starting up again. Nope not at all. Slow as Anything.

One lady had been to Australia about 5 years ago. She really loved Melbourne. OK…She said it correctly proud of you. Her friend wanted ciggies on the way to the airport. Two out of two servos didn’t have her ciggies. Sorry about that.

I had Tom next who works as an IT professional. He was catching a flight to Arizona via Seattle. He drank one of my waters. Fantastic. Drink up. Chatted about Jetty Stone aka armor rock. He was intrigued by it. Told him about how intriguing this part of the world is. He agreed.

Picked up a two ladies going to bank a cheque. One in particular was injured. The reason was she chased her cat and had a fall. Moral of the story don’t own a cat unless it’s not going to run off on you.

Finally Jim wow he was a whopper of a fare. He was being picked up at the marina to go to another marina in Anacortes. That’s about an hour away. Awesome. What appeared to be a slow day turned into a healthy paying day. We chatted about where he was from, he was a retired real estate agent from Texas that has boat moored in Anacortes for 5 months of the year. Nice one. He was pleased to know there were Aussies in this part of the world, apparently there are loads in Texas. Crazy. He thought maybe it has something to do with the landscape. Maybe. We chatted about Houston and San Antonio. Houston would be a cool place to travel too. Simply because when I was 8 years old I went to my uncle’s father’s farm in Parkes NSW. I was taken to the large radio telescope that helped beam the first footage of our good ol’ mate Neil walking on the moon. That’s right if it wasn’t for that southern hemisphere telescope we wouldn’t of seen a bloody thing, just heard his famous words “that’s one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind”. Such an inspiration for all and here we are 50 years on talking about a president who thinks we should nuke a bloody hurricane, oh not to mention if Britain is leaving Europe, oh don’t forget we have sick whizbang mobile phones. I dropped my passenger off at the dock and he tipped me well. Legend.

Fun fact I can work in Burlington, Mt Vernon, and Anacortes. Great to know if I get bored with B’ham. Till next time.
