The 54th Day – Another Thirsty Thursdy

The day begun with the fellow I dropped off at one of the hotels in Birch Bay. He was here at conference for Wyndham. The hotel chain that has something like a timeshare membership. Expensive, but you choose where in the world you want to stay. It works out to be really expensive in the long run. You would have to travel several times a year to appreciate it. They have nice rooms though. I picked him and more of his colleagues. They were all from Idaho. They loved hearing about growing up in Australia and how kangaroos aren’t cute if they become a hood ornament. They told me in a few weeks their boss will most likely need an uber so I gave them my details, so I can pick him up. This is fantastic, the more people I pick up the more business I get. I have had six repeat bookings this week alone. With another two tomorrow night and one one Saturday. Great customer service goes a long way. People are leaving me compliments more often then not. Whether it’s my stories or my accent, people are lapping it up and that’s totally cool by me.

My next customer was at the airport and she had returned from Las Vegas visiting a friend. She was from Kona Hawaii originally, but in B’ham for school. I said got a chance to go to the breweries here yet? Nope! Why not? I’m 18. Oh yes I keep forgetting that 21 is the drinking age here. Stupid really. Get it out of your system young and then you’re ready for adulthood.

Now next I had two band members in my car. One guy plays for Surf Yeti who was playing that night at the Firefly lounge. Haven’t been there yet, but need to for sake of the tap trail I’m doing. After 30 stamps you get a cup and 3 coasters. His mate was in a band that does fashion music. As in the music you hear in the movie Zoolander or Victoria has a Secret. Runway tunes. I gave them my details for future uber rides. Extremely stoked was the impression I got. Oh they both work at Whole Foods, instead of their closest competitor Half Foods 😂🤣. OK there’s no Half Foods. Unless you work for a chip company. 50% of your pack is air so ya chips aren’t crushed.

My next customer works at T Mobile, but was the king of questions. Have you ever seen the movie Uncle Buck with John Candy and Macaulay Culkin is asking him a ton of rapid fire questions? Well if you haven’t the link is below and hilarious. I was going to add a transcript of the questions, but I won’t. To narrow it down he asked me questions about uber, archaeology, why bellingham? Why did you leave Australia yadda yadda yadda.

Then I had the Kenyan lady from a few days ago book me again. She’s been having constant car trouble the past few days. Something about her lights playing up. She works at the hospital. I didn’t know she was Kenyan, I told her my team leader in Victoria was from Kenyan. He was awesome. We were going to go in business together back then, but I moved too far away to do anything with it. She pronounced Tanzania differently to what I would pronounce it, I realised that I have been pronouncing incorrectly the whole time! Stupid me. Oh well live and learn. Honestly doing this gig you do learn something every day. Probably learn at least 2-22 things a day. She wanted me to pick her up after work, which I agreed to. She needed to pick up her car after 4.30. So I agreed.

Then it went quiet for a while. Then I picked two students from Malaysia. Equipping their new apartment with groceries. It was only a short trip but fine by me. Apparently uber doesn’t exist in Malaysia anymore. I asked them why? They weren’t sure. Strange.

Finally I picked up my now new VIP and she was ever so thankful. I said it wasn’t a problem at all. The more bookings I get the more people I can get on top of the randoms through the app.

After I dropped her off I decided to head home. Fruitful Fridays is next.

I just keep getting compliments
